Experiment: Animated iPod

A criticism of this experiment is that half way though the animation I didn't know how I was going to conclude it (when the headphones are more prominent) so my next step is to story board my animations so I know what's coming next.

Research: SONY Bravia Advert

"Animation or Film?" : This advert helps illustrate my point over why I would prefer to use an animation instead of a film for my final piece. Animation contributes to a piece of work by allowing the artist/photographer to be in full control over what happens in the piece and the impossible is made possible making an animation more playful than a recorded film. What do I mean by the "impossible made possible"? If you watch the SONY Bravia advert you will notice the stop motion creatures in the short film was only made possible through the technique of animation, which wouldn't have been achieved by filming it from a video camera.

Experiment: Days of the Week

Here are two videos, the second developing from the first, of the days of the week. The first clip 'Monday' sprouts out of my hand.

The second I decided to continue this idea with it appearing out of my hand, however, instead of just using one day of the week I used five days (Monday to Friday.)

Experiment: Self Picking Clothes

Developing from the Michel Gondry idea of an object moving itself and the theme of 'Daily Routine', here is a stop motion animation of my wardrobe opening and my shirt dismantling off a coat hanger onto the floor...

Research: Michel Gondry

Michel Gondry is famous for using animation in music videos (for example, the music video for "Fell in love with a girl" by the White Stripes.) However, in this advert(above) he's using digital animation and stop motion to promote HP computers.

The segment of this advert which interests me the most is the part were the spider crawls across the room (around 23 seconds in) because it's giving life to an object that can't move by itself. If I were to interpret that into my work I feel it would make the piece more intriguing and interesting.

Experiment: First 'Stop Motion'

After deciding to develop the idea of my daily routine I decided to experiment with doing a couple of stop motion animations based around my daily school day. This first caption was taken at 6pm when 'the Simpsons' starts.

Research: "Neighbours" (1952)

Neighbours was created by Norman McLaren in 1952, however, the version of this which won him an oscar the more violent parts of the original film (above) were taken out so it could be shown to American and European audiences.

This short film is looked upon as an animation, however, very little of the film is actually animated. The majority of the film is shot with variable-speed photography, usually in fast motion, with some stop-frame techniques. During one brief sequence, the two actors appear to levitate: this effect was actually achieved in using 'stop motion'; the men repeatedly jumped upward but were photographed only at the height of each jump.
